e-News Clipping Portal and Service:

School of Open Learning (SOL) has developed web database of ”e-News Clippings” related to SOL, DU, MHRD and related areas. SOL Staff as well as students can access the news with a single-window search facility from anywhere, 24x7.

“News Clippings Service” is one of the common services provided by libraries and information centers. The information technology has changed the mechanism of providing ‘News Clipping Service’ in libraries and information centers. This certainly has facilitated wide circulation of the news items in networked environment with better archives searching.

The database provides web-based full-text access to news items from e-newspapers using web interface. It has been packaged with an easy user interface for library staff to prepare news items and then to upload these news items on web server. The same news items are also delivered by email to specific groups of patron as “Selective Dissemination Information (SDI)” service.

SCOPE/ CONTENT:

• It provides a web-based, full-text access to news items using web interface.
• The detailed news related to School of Open Learning, Delhi University, associated Colleges, MHRD, UGC, Education Policy and other areas published in major e-newspapers: Indian Express, Times of India, Hindustan Times, Nav Bharat Times, Danik Jagran, Hindustan, Rashtriya Sahara are covered.
• Archived news items can be searched by date, newspaper, keywords and subject terms.

HOW TO USE & OBTAIN INFORMATION

• Visit library Portal http://web.sol.du.ac.in/library/index.php/digitallibrary
• Under “Digital Library” tab search “News Clipping Portal”.
• Click, the ’News Portal Database’ will open.
• “Today News” are displayed on the right side of the portal. Simply click on the desired news item.
• In the Task/Menu Items click, “Latest News“ icon and find the news item in descending chronological order.
• In the Task/Menu Items click, “Keyword Search” icon and search the news from Archive Database by free keywords using Boolean operators limiting to any specific period.
• Similarly the search can be made clicking “Subject Search” by choosing from predefined pop up subjects.
